There isn’t a city in the world that celebrates New Year’s Eve like New York City. From the buzz throughout Manhattan to the big ball dropping in Times Square, ringing in the New Year in the “city that never sleeps” is an event that must be experienced first-hand to be believed.
Taylor Swift is slated to perform at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve following a two-hour tribute to the late host, who passed away in April. Out-of-towners and locals will be out in full force in Times Square as the city says goodbye to 2012 and hello to 2013.
If watching the ball drop isn’t your thing, fear not — New York City has plenty of other entertainment options on December 31st. If you are keen to catch another star-studded concert, head to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and watch Coldplay and Jay-Z perform together.
Perhaps you’re looking for something a little more intimate? From cocktails to dance music to comedy and everything in between, there won’t be a restaurant, nightclub or lounge that isn’t hopping. Raise a glass as the clock hits midnight and ring in the New Year in style.

Located between the Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park resides Chuck’s Manufacturing. One of Chicago’s newest and most talked-about restaurants, the story behind it is quite unique. In the mid-1960s, Charles “Chuck” Becker took over his family’s automobile parts company, making it a huge success in the manufacturing world before selling it all. Chuck eventually moved to Chicago, took over Michigan Avenue’s Carbide and Carbon building, and opened the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago.
Chuck’s daughter Carrie Becker Meghie has since taken over much of the hospitality business, and in 2012 she opened Chuck’s Manufacturing, a restaurant that pays homage to her father’s legacy. Specializing in classic American fare, Chuck’s allows diners to construct custom combinations, and prefers to refer to staff as “foremen” and “engineers” rather than servers and bartenders.
As for the food, it’s garnering rave reviews. Burgers, pasta, and steaks make up the bulk of the mains at Chuck’s, with impressive starters and sides as well as fantastic signature cocktails, a healthy selection of beer and a well-chosen wine list. Get a culinary fuel-up at Chuck’s before hitting the city’s nightlife, or take a break from shopping and stop in for lunch.

For 30 years, the world has marveled as NASA’s space shuttle program took brave men and women into orbit. In 2011, the space shuttle era came to an end, and the shuttles were dispersed across the country for public display. There’s never been a better time than right now to check out these awe-inspiring vehicles from our most important era of space travel.
Endeavour — Los Angeles
A hangar at the California Science Center’s museum is the temporary home of Endeavour, the fifth and final space shuttle built by NASA. In a few years the shuttle will be housed in a new permanent building, and will be the only shuttle positioned vertically — as if ready for takeoff.
Discovery — Virginia
NASA’s most flown space shuttle now resides at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Having undertaken 39 flights totaling 149 million miles, Discovery now resides among such notable aircraft as B-29 bomber the Enola Gay, a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and much more.
Enterprise — New York City
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City is the new home of Enterprise, the first space shuttle orbiter. Originally set to be called Constitution, Enterprise was so named thanks to a letter-writing campaign by Star Trek fans. While Enterprise never flew into space, the exhibit at New York City’s Pier 86 allows visitors to get up-close and personal with the space shuttle as well as the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, a Concorde SST and more.
