New York Wine & Food Festival

Where better to hold a food and wine festival than New York City? Bob Dylan in Chicago

Bob Dylan is a living legend —  an artist who broke the mold in both rock ‘n’ roll and folk over the course of the last half-century. His music ranges from intensely personal to fiercely political.

With his new record, Tempest, released to rave reviews, Dylan is on fine musical form – a feat made all the more amazing by the fact that he is 71 years old. His current live show, featuring a killer five-piece band, has been getting great press, with many critics wondering how Dylan can inject such energy into decades-old classics after all this time.

In recent years, Dylan has taken to smashing away on a baby grand piano, infusing a completely new element to classics like All Along the Watchtower, Like a Rolling Stone, Visions of Johanna and more. He’s also managed to seamlessly blend in tracks from Tempest into his sets, making for an engaging, once-in-a-lifetime performance.

Dylan and his band will hit Chicago’s United Center on November 9th for what is sure to be a blistering set of tunes old and new. Be sure to get there early, as opener Mark Knopfler promises to be a treat. The former Dire Straits front-man and guitar virtuoso has an arsenal of songs that are sure to please.

The Rolling Stones in New York

When it comes to staying power, nobody in rock and roll comes close to the Rolling Stones. It’s hard to believe the iconic rock band has been around for fifty years. A half-century in, Mick, Keith and the gang still sounds as fresh as ever.

While the band is in the midst of recording a couple of new songs in Paris, and are being filmed for an HBO documentary, word has leaked they’ll be playing a few exclusive shows in Brooklyn and London this fall. On this side of the pond, the 19,000-seat Barclays Center will play host to the Stones as they gear up for a rumored 50th anniversary tour.

It’s been five years since the band last played live, but if the past is any indication, revelers can expect their iconic brand of swaggering rock and roll to look and sound as fresh as ever. If there was ever a concert in which to plan a pilgrimage, this is it.

Fleet Week in San Francisco

This Columbus Day weekend, the United States Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard will come together in and around San Francisco for an unparalleled display in the air, on the water and on land.

Fleet Week runs from October 4th – 8th, and attracts over a million people to the San Francisco Bay area to take in concerts, air shows, tours of ships and other attractions.

This year’s Fleet Week features the Humanitarian Assistance Village, where visitors can learn about the ways Bay Area First Responders and members of the U.S. military train for disasters wherever and whenever they might strike.

The real treat, however, is in and above the water. The weekend brings a parade of Navy and Coast Guard ships including fireboats, amphibious assault vehicles, destroyers and more. Some ships are available to tour.

In the sky, Fleet Week’s air show is an incredible collection of fighter jets, helicopters, rescue aircrafts and more. Set against the backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay, the aerial display is just one of many components of Fleet Week that will make this Columbus Day weekend one you won’t soon forget.
