Shakespeare in the Park, New York.

Shakespeare in the park“All the world’s a stage” Jaques says famously in Shakespeare’s As You Like It. While that might be so, it’s hard to imagine a more picturesque stage than that of New York City’s Central Park.

Celebrating its fiftieth birthday at the legendary Delacorte Theater, Shakespeare in the Park has become one of New York City’s most beloved annual events. Produced by The Public Theater, this free outing in lush Central Park takes place near Turtle Pond and Belvedere Castle.

Celebrating the event’s milestone anniversary, As You Like It is a pastoral comedy and perpetual crowd-pleaser. This rendition of the play is set in the American south, in the 1890’s and is lauded for showcasing Rosalind, one of the bard’s strongest female characters. Adding to the hype, comedian and banjo aficionado Steve Martin composed a snazzy bluegrass soundtrack. As You Like It will no doubt appeal to theater buffs and Shakespeare novices.

As You Like It runs until June 30. While admission is free, be sure to get tickets for the event by visiting http://www.shakespeareinthepark.org.
